Thanks for the reply.By 'older display' do you mean the Dapper box with the nv driver? What about the Feisty box ... that's not an old display and is my main machine?
'I usually just edit the correct modeline into the xorg.conf file. That isn't too hard even when you don't know what you're doing. It's real easy once you've done that on a few systems. I'm sure you can make it work with a few edits to xorg.conf' |
Do you mean putting the right information in xorg.conf in these areas:
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Section 'Screen'
...
SubSecton 'Display'
Depth 1
Modes '1680x1050_60' '1280x1024' '1152x864' '1024x768' '800x600' '640x480'
EndSubSection
SubSecton 'Display'
Depth 2
Modes ' '1280x1024' '1152x864'
------------------------------------------------------------------------
There's a howto at:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=274291
It relates to a similar monitor and says basically to run
dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
then
sudo nvidia-xconfig
then
add the frequency in xorg.conf as in 1680x1050_60 and maybe change the horizontal and vertical sync rates in the Xorg.conf file
then
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
Is this the kind of thing you mean?
By the way, I'm currently using 1024x768. The widescreen's optimum resolution is 1440x900. All the necessary specs are available.
